Local file read and write via unrestricted sessionPath
Published Aug 9, 2026 · Updated Aug 9, 2026
Path traversal in new-mcp 0.1.0 allows local users to read or write files through crafted geminithinking session paths. The geminithinking handler passes sessionPath directly to saveSession or loadSession, whose synchronous filesystem calls neither confine nor canonicalize the supplied path. An MCP caller with local access can read session-shaped JSON files or create and overwrite JSON files within the server process's permissions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
