Authenticated AWS access via overprivileged Lambda role
Published Aug 9, 2026 · Updated Aug 9, 2026
Improper privilege management in Cyrus Wong ExcelLexBot 0.0.1 through 0.0.3 allows remote authenticated users to affect AWS resources. The ExcelLexBotS3TriggerFunction execution role combines broad AWS managed policies with wildcard IAM and CloudFormation permissions instead of limiting the handler to required actions and resources. Exploitation requires high privileges and allows limited data access or alteration and service interruption within the role's AWS reach.
