CVE-2026-18849

Arbitrary code execution via firmware path traversal

Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026

Path traversal in IBM OpenBMC FW1060.00 through FW1060.80 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code during firmware updates. The update process fails to confine an administrator-supplied pathname to its intended directory, allowing crafted firmware content to reach a code-execution location. IBM has not disclosed the exact update handler or path field; exploitation requires administrator access to the BMC from an adjacent network.
