Code execution via HDR allocation overflow
Published Aug 20, 2026 · Updated Aug 21, 2026
Integer overflow in HDR parsing in GIMP 3.2.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted HDR image file. The HDR parser does not validate user-supplied size values before computing the allocation length, so the arithmetic can wrap before memory is reserved for decoded image data. Exploitation requires a user to open a malicious file or visit content that causes GIMP to process one, and any code runs in the current process context.
