Author-level stored XSS via unescaped image alt text
Published Feb 3, 2026 · Updated Feb 3, 2026
Stored XSS in ThemeIsle Menu Icons 0.13.20 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to run scripts through image alt text. The front-end icon renderer inserts _wp_attachment_image_alt into an HTML img alt attribute without esc_attr(), so crafted metadata escapes the attribute and becomes executable markup. Author-level access is required to store the payload; it executes in the browser of visitors viewing a page whose navigation menu renders the malicious image icon.
