Platform outage via hypercall array-index validation failure
Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 20, 2026
Improper array-index validation in IBM PowerVM Hypervisor allows local users to permanently hang a virtual processor via a hypercall. The hypervisor call interface fails to validate an array index supplied by a specially crafted call, leaving the processor unresponsive and sometimes writing a small amount of data to an uncontrolled memory location. Root access to a guest partition is required, and recovery from the hang requires a full platform re-IPL; the attacker cannot choose the memory-write target.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
