Local command execution via ODMDIR variable

Command injection in ODM handling in IBM AIX 7.2, 7.3, and IBM PowerVM VIOS 4.1 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands via ODMDIR. IBM has disclosed only that code handling the ODMDIR environment variable fails to validate attacker-controlled input before using it in ODM-related processing; no more specific function, utility, or patch diff is public. Exploitation requires local access and control of the process environment, limiting exposure to users who can already run code on the host, but successful exploitation yields command execution with the vulnerable program's privileges.
