CVE-2026-1642Network attack vector

Response injection via pre-handshake plaintext parsing

Published Feb 4, 2026 · Updated Feb 4, 2026

Response injection in F5 NGINX Open Source and NGINX Plus allows man-in-the-middle attackers to alter proxied server responses. In ngx_http_upstream_process_header, a fast plaintext upstream response was parsed before the write handler initialized the required TLS handshake. Exploitation requires a TLS-enabled HTTP, HTTP/2, gRPC, or uWSGI upstream, an upstream-side man-in-the-middle position, and read and write readiness in the same event-loop iteration; injected plaintext can then reach downstream clients.
