Authenticated root command execution via fota_url
Published Jan 29, 2026 · Updated Jan 29, 2026
Command injection in D-Link DWR-M961 1.1.47 allows remote authenticated users to execute operating-system commands through fota_url. The /boafrm/formLtefotaUpgradeFibocom handler checks for a URL scheme but fails to neutralize shell metacharacters before the value reaches a command wrapper. Router authentication is required, and injected commands execute as root, allowing control of the embedded device.
