Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked role assignment
Published Jul 28, 2026 · Updated Jul 28, 2026
Privilege escalation in Teydea Studio WP Password Policy 3.7.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain Administrator privileges. Module_Password_Hint::get_user() accepts user_login and role POST values and calls WP_User::set_role() without a capability check or nonce validation. Subscriber-level access plus a valid password-reset cookie reaches the password_hint filter, allowing control of an existing account to become Administrator.
