Restricted content disclosure via generic REST capability check
Published Aug 2, 2026 · Updated Aug 2, 2026
Incorrect authorization in WP Chill Simple Restrict before 1.2.9 allows remote authenticated users to read restricted content via REST API. The REST API restriction check accepts the generic edit_posts capability instead of checking the simple-restrict-permission taxonomy assigned to the requested content. A Contributor or higher with a valid session and REST nonce can retrieve a restricted page or post despite lacking its assigned permission.
