Arbitrary file write via unvalidated LTS codename
Published Jul 15, 2026 · Updated Jul 15, 2026
Path traversal in nvm 0.32.1 through 0.40.5 allows remote attackers to overwrite user files through a hostile Node.js mirror. nvm_ls_remote_index_tab uses the mirror's index.tab LTS codename as an alias filename, and nvm_make_alias writes it beneath the alias path without rejecting traversal. A user must run an LTS-alias-refreshing command against a malicious, compromised, or intercepted mirror; overwriting a shell startup file executes commands in a later shell session.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
