Contributor-to-Administrator escalation via unrestricted membership role
Published Aug 1, 2026 · Updated Aug 1, 2026
Privilege escalation in WP Swings Subscriptions for WooCommerce 2.0.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to become Administrators. The save_meta_boxes() function stores a POST-supplied _wps_plan_user_role after checks that still accept administrator, while its edit_post guard admits Contributors. Exploitation requires the Pro companion plugin, which reads the stored role and applies it during a membership lifecycle event.
