Local SYSTEM file disclosure via unimpersonated WMI queries
Published Jul 17, 2026 · Updated Jul 17, 2026
Improper privilege management in Symantec IT Management Suite 8.8 and 8.8.1 allows local users to read SYSTEM-accessible files. The AltirisAgent_Stream WMI class services caller-selected file reads after the provider reverts to LocalSystem without re-impersonating the caller. Any local standard account can therefore bypass file ACLs and disclose configuration data, logs, or secrets readable by SYSTEM.
