Unauthenticated account takeover via unbound OTP verification
Published Aug 2, 2026 · Updated Aug 2, 2026
Authentication bypass in SMS Alert Order Notifications before 3.9.8 allows remote attackers to take over accounts through signup. The signup/login handler treats the session-wide sa_mobile_verified flag as sufficient, then selects an account using a newly supplied billing phone rather than the number whose OTP was validated. Exploitation requires WooCommerce, the default-disabled Signup with Mobile feature, a working gateway, and knowledge of a victim's billing phone; success creates that victim's WordPress session.
