File read and write via path validation bypass
Published Jul 9, 2026 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Path traversal in tumf MCP Text Editor Server 1.0.0 through 1.0.2 allows remote attackers to read or write files via crafted MCP input. _validate_file_path in mcp_text_editor/text_editor.py rejects paths only when their text contains ".." and does not confine resolved paths to an allowed directory. Successful access requires a user or agent to pass attacker-influenced file_path input, and resulting reads or writes remain limited by server process permissions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
