CVE-2026-14966Network attack vector

Symlink planting via DOS-prefixed mode parsing

Published Jul 8, 2026 · Updated Jul 8, 2026

Link-resolution flaw in BBOT 2.3.1 through 2.8.6 allows remote attackers to plant symlinks through a crafted zip or 7z archive. The unarchive._check_archive_safe() zip/7z branch tested only the start of p7zip's Attributes value, so a DOS prefix hid the trailing Unix symlink mode and 7z x materialized the entry. Exploitation requires user interaction that causes BBOT to download and extract the archive on a host using legacy p7zip; the target is not written through.
