Stored XSS via decoded caption attribute
Published Jul 31, 2026 · Updated Jul 31, 2026
Stored XSS in Lightbox with PhotoSwipe before 5.9.0 allows remote authenticated users to run JavaScript when visitors open lightboxes. The plugin decodes HTML entities from the data-lbwps-caption link attribute and inserts the resulting markup into the PhotoSwipe caption without sanitization or output escaping. Author access is sufficient with default caption display; Contributor access also works when an Editor or Administrator previews the post, and execution occurs only after a visitor clicks the crafted lightbox link.
