Command execution via shell-expanded browser URL
Published Jul 6, 2026 · Updated Jul 6, 2026
OS command injection in Create React App 5.0.0 and 5.0.1 allows attackers to execute commands through a crafted development URL on macOS. The macOS path in react-dev-utils/openBrowser.js places encodeURI(url) inside a double-quoted osascript command run by execSync, leaving shell command-substitution characters active. Exploitation requires control of the URL and a running supported Chromium browser; successful injection executes with the developer's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
