Out-of-bounds read in DBI before 1.650 allows context-dependent attackers to crash hardened processes via an initial SQL comment. In DBI.xs preparse, comment deletion evaluates *(dest-1) while dest still points to the start of the new output buffer, reading one byte before it. Reachability requires a driver or application to pass attacker-influenced SQL through preparse; normal allocators instead exhibit nondeterministic newline retention.
