Histogram state corruption via negative count acceptance
Published Jul 4, 2026 · Updated Jul 4, 2026
State corruption in HdrHistogram 2.2.0 through 2.2.2 allows local users to alter histogram results via a negative count. AbstractHistogram.recordValueWithCount passes count directly to recordCountAtValue, which adds negative values to bucket and total counters without rejecting them. Reachability requires a calling application to pass attacker-controlled counts; the maintainer disputes that this behavior crosses a security boundary.
