CVE-2026-14620Network attack vector

Local file opening and degradation via cross-origin GETs

Published Jul 3, 2026 · Updated Jul 3, 2026

Cross-site request forgery in webpack-dev-server 5.2.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to open local files and degrade developer machines. The /webpack-dev-server/open-editor and /webpack-dev-server/invalidate handlers accept state-changing GET requests without checking whether the browser request is same-origin. A developer must visit an attacker-controlled site while the server is running; file contents are not disclosed, but arbitrary existing files can open in the editor and repeated requests can spawn processes or force recompilation.
