Daemon crash via off-by-one buffer access
Published Jul 3, 2026 · Updated Jul 3, 2026
Out-of-bounds memory access in FreeIPA ipa-otpd allows remote attackers to crash the daemon through oversized external IdP responses. The oauth2_on_child_readable() handler writes a terminator at buf[10240] after a full-length read and gives memchr a length that is one byte too large. Exploitation requires a configured external IdP, attacker control or interception of that endpoint, and a user-initiated OAuth2 device flow; the bounded outcome is ipa-otpd instability or crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
