Unauthenticated administrator access via arbitrary option update
Published Jul 8, 2026 · Updated Jul 8, 2026
Privilege escalation in 多说社会化评论框 1.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to gain administrator access through its web API. The api.php update_option handler passes attacker-controlled option and value parameters to WordPress update_option without authorization, an allowlist, or sanitization after accepting an HMAC-SHA1 signature keyed by an empty option. No account is required; changing default_role and enabling registration lets an attacker create an administrator account.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
