CVE-2026-14474Network attack vector

Root privilege escalation via directory-wide sudoRole search

Published Jul 7, 2026 · Updated Aug 31, 2026

Privilege escalation in SSSD on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and OpenShift allows remote authenticated users to gain root via LDAP sudoRole injection. When ldap_sudo_search_base is unset, the LDAP and AD sudo providers search from the domain root with SUBTREE scope instead of limiting results to the intended sudoers container. Exploitation requires delegated LDAP write access to any subtree and lets a crafted sudoRole grant arbitrary sudo privileges on every enrolled host; the IPA sudo provider is not affected.
