Path redirection in HashiCorp Consul Template before 0.42.1 allows local users to expose rendered secrets via crafted filesystem links. The writeToFile helper opens its destination directly and follows symbolic links, directory junctions, and similar redirections without validating the resolved location. Exploitation requires local access to alter path components beneath the destination; exposed output can include keys and certificates.
