Process crash via empty chapter text sample
Published Jan 26, 2026 · Updated Jan 26, 2026
Null pointer dereference in GPAC MP4Box 2.0 through 2.4.0 allows local users to trigger undefined behavior with a crafted MP4 file. DumpMovieInfo passes a null text pointer from an empty chapter sample to fprintf as a string without checking it first. The trigger requires MP4Box -info processing; Windows and some non-glibc platforms crash, while glibc prints “(null)” and continues.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
