Remote heap over-read via truncated ClientHello
Published Jun 29, 2026 · Updated Jun 29, 2026
Heap-based buffer overflow in PcapPlusPlus 25.05 allows remote attackers to read two bytes past a heap buffer via a malformed TLS ClientHello. SSLClientHelloMessage::getHandshakeVersion reads the two-byte handshakeVersion field without first verifying that the packet extends beyond the TLS handshake header. A consuming application must parse attacker-controlled TLS traffic; the demonstrated consequence is a heap over-read and an AddressSanitizer process abort.
