Publisher account takeover via inline HTML rendering
Published Jul 1, 2026 · Updated Jul 1, 2026
Stored XSS in Eclipse Open VSX before 1.0.2 allows remote authenticated users to take over publisher accounts via crafted VSIX files. The /vscode/unpkg/ endpoint labels user-supplied HTML as text/html and serves it inline without CSP or attachment disposition. A publisher account and a click by an authenticated victim are required; same-origin script can steal the session, mint a PAT, and publish extension updates.
