Guest-triggered service interruption via unbounded line buffering

Resource exhaustion in Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization allows guest OS users to interrupt virt-handler through a configured metrics device. The downward metrics virtio-serial server passes a newline-free guest byte stream to textproto.Reader.ReadLine(), which buffers input without a length limit or read deadline. Access to a VM guest with the downward metrics device configured is required; continued input exhausts virt-handler memory until the process is OOM-killed.
