Authenticated service interruption via aggregation engine inconsistency
Published Jul 22, 2026 · Updated Jul 22, 2026
Reachable assertion in MongoDB Server 8.0 before 8.0.28 allows remote authenticated users to crash mongod via an aggregation command. A specific combination of aggregation options causes internal engine selection to enter an inconsistent state and trip an invariant assertion. Read-only database privileges suffice, and the abnormal termination interrupts all connected clients until mongod is restarted.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
