Unintended role assignment via omitted CA allow-list check
Published Jul 22, 2026 · Updated Jul 22, 2026
Incorrect authorization in MongoDB Server 8.0 through 8.0.27 and 8.3.0 through 8.3.6 allows local users to gain unintended roles. On the PROXY protocol v2 Unix-domain-socket path, MONGODB-X509 authentication derives certificate roles without enforcing the tlsCATrusts allow-list. Exploitation requires local socket access and a valid certificate from a trusted CA, and grants privileges outside the configured CA-specific role restrictions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=8.0 <8.0.28

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
