Authenticated service crash via invalid $linearFill sortBy
Published Jul 22, 2026 · Updated Jul 22, 2026
Improper input validation in MongoDB Server allows remote authenticated users with read access to crash mongod via a $linearFill pipeline. $linearFill accepts a sortBy expression of an invalid type and executes the malformed sort specification without sufficient validation, causing a null-pointer dereference. Read-only database privileges are sufficient; the crafted aggregation pipeline terminates the server process, interrupting database service without reading or altering data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
