Authenticated server crash via incomplete transaction fields
Published Jul 22, 2026 · Updated Jul 22, 2026
Assertion failure in MongoDB Server before 8.0.28, 8.2.12, or 8.3.7 allows remote authenticated users to crash mongod. Transaction-command validation accepts an incomplete set of related fields, after which a fatal internal invariant terminates the process. Basic write privileges are sufficient; successful exploitation interrupts the database service without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=8.0 <8.0.28

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
