CVE-2026-12802Network attack vector

Message forgery via attacker-controlled AEAD tag length

Published Aug 3, 2026 · Updated Aug 3, 2026

Improper integrity validation in Bouncy Castle Java before 1.85 allows remote attackers to forge CMS AuthEnvelopedData messages. AbstractRecipient trusts the unauthenticated GCM or CCM ICV length in AlgorithmIdentifier and accepts tags as short as 32 bits, reducing forgery resistance. Processing a crafted message is sufficient; Java LTS before 2.73.12 and FIPS bcpkix-fips before 1.0.12, 2.0.12, or 2.1.12 are also affected.
