Local privilege escalation via raw disk forwarding
Published Jun 21, 2026 · Updated Jun 21, 2026
Improper access control in AOMEI Backupper 8.0 through 8.3.0 allows local users to gain elevated privileges through amwrtdrv.sys. The driver exposes \.\amwrtdrv\Partition0\DISK to standard users and forwards raw disk reads and writes without enforcing Windows access checks. Low-privileged Windows access is sufficient to read or alter protected file data and use security-sensitive disk changes for privilege escalation.
