Shop Manager-to-Administrator escalation via unrestricted option updates
Published Jul 24, 2026 · Updated Jul 24, 2026
Privilege escalation in WPify Woo 5.4.16 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain Administrator access through its REST API. SettingsApi::save_option passes request-controlled option names and values directly to update_option without an allowlist, while its permission check accepts manage_woocommerce. Shop Manager access is sufficient to overwrite security-sensitive WordPress options, enabling Administrator-level control or security-plugin deactivation.
