Unauthenticated comment tampering via unchecked REST route
Published Jul 20, 2026 · Updated Jul 20, 2026
Missing authorization in Kirki before 6.0.12 allows remote attackers to overwrite comments or create approved comments via a REST route. The KirkiComponentLibrary/v1/kirki-comment handler accepts a nonce exposed in public page markup, then updates any supplied comment ID or inserts a comment as approved without an authorization check. A published unauthenticated proof of concept uses no cookies; exploitation can replace existing comment text or bypass moderation with a spoofed author identity.
