Cross-user message tampering via unchecked AJAX actions
Published Jul 24, 2026 · Updated Jul 24, 2026
Missing authorization in ProfileGrid before 5.9.9.7 allows remote authenticated users to alter other users' private-message threads. The pm_messenger_delete_threads and pm_messages_mark_as_read AJAX actions accept attacker-selected thread IDs without a nonce, authorization, or ownership check, then update thread metadata and message status. Subscriber-level access and an existing thread between other users are required; the surface can hide threads and clear unread state but cannot read message bodies.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
