Unauthenticated administrator takeover via unchecked user update
Published Sep 2, 2026 · Updated Sep 2, 2026
Missing authorization in Advanced Custom Fields: Extended before 0.9.2.7 allows remote attackers to take over administrator accounts. The front-end Forms module update-user action accepts a visitor-supplied password for a targeted account without verifying authorization unless the submitted role is administrator or super_admin. Exploitation requires a public form configured to target an existing administrator rather than the submitting user and to map its password field to visitor input.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
