Cross-guest volume hijack via unchecked device attachment
Published Jun 26, 2026 · Updated Jun 26, 2026
Broken access control in Canonical LXD 6.6 through 6.8 allows guest OS users to read and overwrite another guest's custom volume. devLXDInstancePatchHandler validates a new disk device's shape but neither loads the named volume nor verifies its owner before attaching it. Exploitation requires a normal DevLXD identity in a shared project with security.devlxd.management.volumes enabled; no victim interaction is required.
