CVE-2026-12234

Local privilege escalation via syscall double-fetch

Published Aug 12, 2026 · Updated Aug 12, 2026

TOCTOU in Zephyr RTOS before 4.4.2 allows local users to overwrite kernel heap memory through socket system calls. The z_vrfy_zsock_sendmsg() and z_vrfy_zsock_recvmsg() verifiers size an iovec shadow from one msg_iovlen read, then bound copy loops with later reads of the mutable user header. With CONFIG_USERSPACE and socket syscalls enabled, a cooperating thread can win the race to obtain a privilege-escalation primitive or crash the kernel.
