Vendor-to-Administrator escalation via arbitrary capability assignment
Published Jul 1, 2026 · Updated Jul 1, 2026
Privilege escalation in weDevs Dokan Pro 5.0.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to grant Administrator capabilities. The update_capabilities() REST handler passes arbitrary request-supplied capability strings to WP_User::add_cap() without an allowlist. A self-provisioned Vendor account and an enabled Vendor Staff module are required; arbitrary vendor_staff accounts can be elevated for full site takeover.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
