Account takeover via CAPTCHA-only password reset
Published Jun 12, 2026 · Updated Jun 12, 2026
Weak password recovery in PbootCMS 3.2.12 and earlier allows remote attackers to overwrite a member password and take over the account. MemberController.php retrieve() accepts an unauthenticated new password, treats a shared image-CAPTCHA session value as sufficient proof, and directly updates ay_member without an ownership token. Knowledge of the username and a solved CAPTCHA is enough when the member email is empty by default, granting control of the affected member account and its data.
