Remote memory exhaustion via canceled validation backlog
Published Jul 22, 2026 · Updated Jul 22, 2026
Resource exhaustion in affected Internet Systems Consortium BIND 9 releases allows remote attackers to cause runaway memory use. The DNSSEC validator leaves canceled validations in its internal work queue and retains their associated responses until that queued work runs. A sustained random-subdomain attack against a signed zone must deliver queries faster than validation completes, driving memory past max-cache-size and degrading response rates.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
