Command execution and file overwrite via two-argument open
Published Jun 14, 2026 · Updated Jun 14, 2026
OS command injection in Reini Urban GD before 2.86 allows attackers to execute commands or overwrite files through crafted pathname arguments. GD::Image::_make_filehandle passes filenames to Perl's two-argument open(), which treats pipe and redirect syntax as commands or file operations. Exploitation requires a caller to supply untrusted input to a filename-accepting constructor; commands run and files are truncated under the process UID.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
