Privilege escalation via caller-controlled account role
Published Jun 8, 2026 · Updated Jun 8, 2026
Improper authorization in SourceCodester Inventory System 1.0 allows remote authenticated users to assign elevated roles to new accounts. The users_handler.php account-creation endpoint accepts the caller-controlled ROLE value without enforcing which roles that caller may assign. A low-privilege session is required; successful exploitation creates an account with unauthorized privileges and permits its use.
