Arbitrary file writes via WaveDrom eval injection
Published Jun 5, 2026 · Updated Jun 5, 2026
Code injection in Markdown Preview Enhanced before 0.8.28 allows attackers to write arbitrary local files through crafted Markdown. The WaveDrom renderer passes raw fenced-block text to window.eval(), while preserved WaveDrom script tags and unrestricted webview message dispatch expose the extension host's updateMarkdown file-write path. Exploitation requires a user to open the document and render its preview; no script-execution setting is required, and the write can target paths outside the workspace.
