Root command execution via unfiltered OpenVPN directives
Published Jun 6, 2026 · Updated Jun 6, 2026
Command injection in GL.iNet MT3000 firmware 4.4.0 through 4.4.5 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root. The ovpnclient.sh script removes only four directives from an uploaded OpenVPN profile, then starts OpenVPN as root with script-security 3. Administrative credentials and starting the imported VPN profile are required; injected script directives run with full router privileges.
