Account impersonation via low-entropy API key generation
Published Jul 14, 2026 · Updated Jul 14, 2026
Insufficient entropy in Sonatype Nexus Repository before 3.93.0 allows remote attackers to recover a targeted user's format-specific API key. The undisclosed key-generation algorithm produces NuGet, Docker, npm, and Conan credentials with too little entropy, making a key recoverable from a valid username. Exploitation requires an enabled NuGet API Key, Docker Bearer Token, or npm Bearer Token realm and an active key for the target; recovered credentials permit repository reads and, with publish rights, writes.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
